From Landline phone days to today
I was reminded of the days of trunk calls, while watching a bit of chupke chupke (an old Hindi comedy movie)..first, of course, one had to be rich enough to afford a landline..then, one would need to book the call...then, the minutes would be fixed..so everyone who needed to talk would be standing around, ready and waiting...... And, what fun it was to keep saying 'hello, hello', even after the operator said six minutes over' in that stentorian voice... what a sense of achievement it used to be to feel we got an extra half minute for free. ... Plus, of course, if it was someone one wanted to avoid, how easy it was to say 'sunaai nahin de raha hai.' (I can't hear you) and now, if you say that, you'll get a Whatsapp message or a WhatsApp call or sms or a fb message or..... argh!! you can't escape unless you tell them that your phone battery is dying and thye should speak up quickly.. hahaha :) .. if that works.
